he series "Gold Wall" has been in development since 2014.
On large wooden panels, countless steps are involved in the creation process. What is crucial for these meticulously crafted pieces is that their gilding is done with countless small pieces of gold leaf. For a size of 120 × 120 cm, around 5,000 sheets of 2 × 2 cm gold leaf are applied.
Once the area is fully gilded, the top layer, the gold, is gently removed through an ultra-fine polishing process. The bolus, the colored underlying layer, becomes visible, and the gold shines through where it has been applied in overlapping layers—doubling the thickness in those areas.
The result of this procedure is a color-backed gold surface, where the poliment shows through, and the countless sheets of gold leaf shimmer as they appear and disappear in a dynamic interplay.
The size of the areas allows for a complete "immersion" of the viewer into these expansive spaces of light.
